Ivory Coast was colonized by France (1958-1960) , hence its great influence on the culture of this country , as well miss out on the record : the currency , the official religion and the official language taught in schools ( French ) . In 1960 Ivory Coast gained independence and maintaining close ties to France since such independence , diversification of agriculture for export, and encouragement of foreign investment , has made Côte d'Ivoire one of the most prosperous African tropical countries. However , in recent years Côte d'Ivoire has been subject to greater competition and falling prices in the global market for its main agricultural crops.
